The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake

The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake

The Atlas Six was written by Olivie Blake. It was published in early 2022, and instantly hit the New York Times Bestseller list despite being self published. The book contains 384.

Haley Pham once said that this was her favorite book in a YouTube video where she shared all of her favorite 5 star reads. She also said, “You need to read this book. Like, this is the type of book where if you don’t even like fantasy, I’d be like this is the book for you because I don’t even read that much fantasy at all, but this book I like more than the romance books that I love, so just read this book, all of you.”

The book, The Atlas Six, is set in a parallel world where a secret society exists called the Alexandrian Society. Here magic is real, magicians exist, and only six of the most talented are selected to join every decade.

Obviously, everyone wants to be chosen to join the Alexandrian Society. The prestige, wealth, and power that comes along with being chosen is beyond most people’s wildest dreams.

Each of the six magicians has their own unique power that they bring to the table. Some can control the elements, some can control life itself, telepaths, illusionists, reality-benders, manipulate plants, and more.

These recruits have one year to prove that they belong in the Alexandrian Society. They must contribute to society in subjects like time and space, luck and thought, life and death.

Each recruit will spend the next year fighting their hardest for a chance to be accepted into the Alexandrian Society.

Beach Read by Emily Henry

Beach Read by Emily Henry

Beach Read was written by Emily Henry. This book was published in 2020, and has 400 pages. The author has written a few other New York Times Bestsellers.

Another book that Haley Pham recommended in her video of 5 star books was Beach Read. She said, “This book is hyped up for a reason, and I love it! Out of every book I’ve read so far, I want to reread this one the most. I see some people’s reviews of this and they don’t like it, and I’m like, genuinely, were we reading the same book?”

Beach Read follows two characters who are complete opposites. The first, January Andrews, a bestselling romance novelist. The second is Augustus Everett, who writes literary fiction.

Both of them end up neighbors in beach houses that they are renting in order to get over their writer’s block. It’s not working for either of them.

Until one day they come up with a brilliant idea. They will swap writing styles to get out of their funk. Augustus will write a sappy love story, and January will start her work on a novel about a death cult in the middle of the woods.

Let’s see if the two can finish their books without falling in love.

The Summer of Broken Rules was written by K. L. Wather. This book is 384 pages long, and was published in 2021.

Haley Pham recommended this book because she said it was the perfect book to get you back into reading. She also read it during the summer of 2022 and said, “The summer vibes in this book. I just wanted to eat this book. I just love when a book has summer vibes. This was the perfect summer book. If you want a visco beach girl book to read, this is that. There’s also romance in it, and they go to Martha’s Vineyard which is such a pretty backdrop for the book. It was so cute, and fun.”

Every year Meredith Fox’s family goes on vacation to Martha’s Vineyard. The problem is Meredith lost her sister a year and a half ago, and she hasn’t felt like herself since. She has basically shut everyone in her life out.

Meredith feels like this year’s trip is the perfect place to get back out of her shell and start to feel like herself again. This year there will be a big wedding, so her entire extended family will be there. Sadly, Meredith will be dateless as she was recently broken up with.

Despite these setbacks, she is willing to participate in a game her family plays called assassin. She wants to win to honor her sister’s legacy. Soon she finds herself in an alliance with a cute groomsman. Of course this distracts her.

Fun fact: This novel was inspired by a few Taylor Swift songs!

The Do Over by Lynn Painter

The Do Over by Lynn Painter

The Do Over was written by Lynn Painter. This book was published in 2022, and is about 304 pages long.

This was another book that Haley Pham recommended in her 5 stars video. She excitedly said, “Lynn Painter actually wrote my name, and y’all’s collective name, in the acknowledgments of this book, which is the kindest thing ever. Like, she as an author has been so kind to me. It’s not a requirement, like, I would talk about her books regardless of the recognition for talking about her books, and yet she still DMs me and thanks me for things. It’s just so crazy and it’s so cool that you guys have trusted my recommendation to actually go out and read the book and that so many of you guys have enjoyed it is just the most fun, like, community experience I’ve ever had on YouTube. There’s a little close-up of the acknowledgments. It’s right here, ‘Haley Pham, I adore you and your delightful followers.’”

The Do Over follows Emilie Hornby, who has just had the worst Valentine’s Day of her entire life. Her boyfriend, Josh, cheated on her. And she saw it happen!

Emilie quickly leaves for her grandmother’s house, where she plans to do nothing but cry, eat ice cream, and go to sleep. But when she wakes up she realizes something weird. It’s Valentine’s Day again! And it doesn’t happen just once. It’s always Valentine’s Day again.

At first she believes she has gone crazy. She’s tortured by having to watch her boyfriend cheat on her over and over again. She keeps running into this guy Nick, who is weird but also a little mysterious and interesting.

Can Emilie survive this nightmare Valentine’s Day? Can she somehow make living the same day over and over again work out?

This is just one of the cute books by Lynn Painter!

Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Finlay Donovan is Killing It was written by Elle Cosimano, and published in 2021. The book is about 368 pages long.

Haley Pham loved this book, recommending it to those who have not read a book in a while. Here’s what she said about Finlay Donovan is Killing It, “It’s super fast-paced. It’s just, like, obviously you have to suspend any disbelief because that’s, like, the fun of this book, that this would never happen in real life, but it’s funny. The side characters are super well developed, and you just fall in love with them as well. So I highly recommend this book. This was the last book that I read last year, so I haven’t gotten to put it in many videos, but this is just one of those books that I could recommend to anyone who wants a fast-paced mystery murder mystery comedy type book.”

Finlay Donovan is Killing It follows a stressed-out single mom of two named Finlay Donovan. What a coincidence!

Anyway, her life is a mess. Her biggest problem is that she hasn’t been able to complete her newest book. On top of that, her husband didn’t tell her that he fired the nanny, and after a careless incident with the scissors Finlay has to send her daughter to school with duct tape on her forehead.

Her life takes an even crazier turn when she is at lunch with her book agent discussing her newest book. Someone overhears her, believes that she is actually a contract killer, and hires her to take out their husband.

Finlay takes the job so she can pay the bills, but it’s not anything like the books, and things start to get real when she gets caught up in a murder investigation.

Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter

Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter

Haley Pham recommended Lynn Painter’s first book Better Than the Movies, which has 384 pages, and was published in 2021.

When Haley Pham recommended the book, she said “I finished Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter, and if you haven’t already bought this book and read it because of me, then you should now because it is one of my all-time favorite romances of all time. Did I say that twice?

It’s a young adult romance, but don’t let that stop you if you’re not someone who usually reads young adult.

This is just… oh, my gosh. I want to reread it already because I’m recommending it to so many people that I’ve seen so many of y’all tag me that you’ve read it and given it five stars. This is obviously five stars for me. It’s like my favorite romance book of all time.

Wow, it’s so cute, and actually it’s really funny because I didn’t even think I liked it that much when I was reading the first three chapters. I just thought it was like a normal book.

If you love movies and you love rom-coms and you love music, all of those things are in this book. Every single chapter has a quote from a different rom-com, so after reading this I really wanted to watch some classics like When Harry Met Sally.

Well, I don’t even want to give away who the romance is with because I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t really know anything about the book until I just started reading it it’s so… GOOD!”

The story is about Liz Buxbaum. She wants to go to prom with Michael, her crush who came back to town after leaving for a few years. Liz is willing to do anything to get Michael to notice her, even teaming up with Wes Bennet, her not-so-friendly neighbor who always takes her parking spot. Liz thinks Wes might be the key to getting closer to Michael because they seem to get along well.

As the story goes on, Liz starts to enjoy spending time with Wes, despite him being annoying. This makes her question what she knows about love. She wonders if the romantic movies she’s seen have given her the wrong idea about love.

Will Liz change her mind about her “happily ever after”?
