On the other hand, Olive’s twin sister Ami seems to have all the luck in the world. She keeps winning contests and manages to save enough money for her own wedding.

While Olive is happy for Ami, there’s one thing she’s not thrilled about. She has to spend the entire wedding day with Ethan Thomas, the best man who happens to be her rival and nemesis.

In a crazy turn of events, everyone at the wedding, except Olive and Ethan, gets food poisoning. This means that Ami and her new husband can’t go on their honeymoon, which they can’t get a refund for. Finally, luck strikes Olive because she gets the chance to go on the honeymoon instead of her sister. 

The catch? She has to go with Ethan.

So now Olive has to spend ten days in Maui with the person she dislikes the most. They make a truce to avoid ruining each other’s time, especially since they have to pretend to be newlyweds in front of Olive’s boss, whom they unexpectedly run into. It becomes quite the ordeal.

As the days pass, Olive surprisingly starts enjoying pretending to be Ethan’s wife. They grow closer and closer, and I think we might guess what happens then.

Belly absolutely loves summer. During the winter, she eagerly counts down the days until she can go to Cousins Beach again. She looks forward to escaping her regular life and spending time with Jeremiah and Conrad, who are like brothers to her but also her crushes. She’s known them forever, but she can’t wait to be with them at the beach house.

However, this particular summer brings changes in Belly’s relationship with the boys. She starts experiencing strange and unfamiliar emotions toward them, and she tries to navigate these feelings.

Jenny Han’s writing in The Summer I Turned Pretty is vivid and immersive. The book tells a relatable coming-of-age story that’s both thrilling and intricate. 

It’s the kind of page-turner you’ll enjoy reading while relaxing on the beach while on vacation.
